[My GigaHertz]

My computer is old - about 5 years now. Running XP sp3 on a Dell Pentium4 processor.
It takes maybe 2 minutes to load firefox, IE, opera or pretty much whichever program you can think of. That seems too long.

Recently hit by a trojan, but it was slow before. All recent scans say I'm ok.

I have 52 processes running. That sounds like too many. Plus, for some reason I have 7 copies of SVChost.exe running. Also use carbonite backup, which I know is causing part of the problem.

Any help would be most appreciated. You guys helped tremendously with my recent trojan infection.

Well I'm going to say they for now you need to be patient... I took a look over at your thread in the virus forum... I see the Essexboy is assisting you. You are in Great hands

I understand all the "scans" say your clean. But what you need to wait for is Essexboy to tell you that you are "Clean" from the infection... Malware is very tricky and changes a lot to hide from scanners. So it takes the eyes of a trained expert to spot the infection most of the time.

Once you have received a clean bill of health it will be much easier to assist you with your problem... As we will not have to take malware into consideration "as a cause"

I'm back, clean bill of health in hand.
Here's some data regarding startup times for a few programs:

These are times from first click until program is fully loaded (after fresh reboot)
Firefox - 1min 1sec
Opera - 33sec
IE8 - 1min 28sec

These are times to reload programs after shutting it down (no reboot)
Firefox - 51sec
IE8 - 1min 19sec
Opera - not tested

Also, there is some delay from the time I click on the Start Menu / Programs until the Programs list actually appears (8.7 sec)

These seem too long for me. Maybe I'm being too picky, but I'd appreciate any advice. If you see my previous thread with Essexboy, I followed all instructions as he listed them, and the times listed are AFTER doing his recommened cleanup.

Some data on my computer:
Dell Dimension 8400 (yeah, I know, it's Old)
Pentium 4 (3.4 GHz)
1GB RAM
Windows XP sp3

Am I asking too much from my old machine? It used to be so fast... LOL!

Sorry I haven't responded to you in a couple of days...

Lets take a look at what is currently installed in your computer and see if there is something that can be removed "that you don't use anymore"

Please Download Everest --> HERE

Once you have it installed initialize the program.

On the left hand side of the screen there will be a menu please scroll down and select Software>Then Installed Programs

Now on the top of the window select Reports > Click on Quick report> Plain Text

Highlight and copy all the Text above Debug PCI

Then please paste in in your next reply...

Hi Thank you for the log...

You have a lot of things installed in your computer... At the age of your computer you are asking it to do a lot.

Things to consider to select what to uninstall:
Is it a necessary program?
Do YOU use the program?
If it is used very infrequently, Do you have a copy of the program on file so you can remove it, and reinstall it again when you need to use it?

For the installed programs for the cameras:
Do you still use all the cameras?
I see you have a canon installed, and also a kodak.
Just some things to think about...

I see you use Adobe programs...
You have several versions installed do you need them all, maybe you can try this free PDF reader you may like it.

Here is a link --> HERE for Foxit PDF viewer... This program is comparable to Adobe Acrobat reader, and it uses a lot less system resources. Give this program a try...

Another thing that can help your system is to upgrade your ram.

Download the scanner and let it complete it's scan...
write down the specs it tells you (You don't have to purchase the ram there, it is just a nice tool) Then you can locate and purchase the proper ram for your computer...
