I hope I'm posting this in the right place, but if not I apologize.

I'm trying to host my own FTP server, while using a domain name registered through goDaddy.

Just to clarify, that means that I'll have all the files on my home server but people will access them by entering my registered goDaddy domain name (hereafter referred to as mydomain.info).

I can host a basic website this way, but i want people to be able to go to ftp.mydomain.info and log into the ftp site.

Sorry if this isn't very clear and thanks in advance for your help.

Doesn't work that way when you are running your own computer as a server. Your domain name needs to have the named pointers set up so all the Internet servers know where to find you. You would have to actually pay for the hosting of your domain name, then probably write to the .htaccess file to have it point back to your home server. Personally, your ISP may not allow that because your bandwidth requirements would increase. Plus, once you have paid hosting, you have both private and public FTP access.
