Hi,

I recently purchased an Acer laptop which had some application called MyWinLocker by EgisTec. My OS is Vista Home Premium.

Now, the application does not work and on boot up, I always get an error message. I tried uninstalling, but that doe not work. I tried to re-install, but that also does not work. How do I get rid of this?! See the errors that I get below:

when i was trying to use Mywinlocker, i had clicked on the update option. during the update, it crashed and ever since the program does not work and I cannot uninstall it either.

when launching the program and on startup, i get the following error:

the application has failed to start because sysenv.dll was not found. re-installing the application may fix the problem

when i try to reinstall from the acer restore program, it says an updated version is already installed and therefore nothing can be done.

when i try to uninstall application, i click on change, and then it says:

some files that need to be updated are currently in use:
EgisUpdate Release Application
the option is then to automatically close and attempt to restart applications

when i click next, i get error 1722 = there is an error with this windows installer package

Please help!

Thx Vern.

try to uninstall it in safe mode

While starting your computer tap the F8 key once every second during the memory count up, or during the system splash screen where you see the system maker's name (HP, COMPAQ, DELL....etc.)

This will result in a text based menu. Use the cursors/arrow keys to navigate to SAFE MODE and hit enter.

Does the problem recur in safe mode?.

Although your issue may seem similar there can be other factors that may need to be resolved.
By bumping on someone's topic it makes it confusing for the tech to understand who they are helping. This can in turn cause the wrong support to be given and can cause instability or worse to happen to your system. Thank you for your cooperation.

I also am furious with Egis because I didn't want mywinlocker on my new Acer laptop which has Win 7 home premium where my winlocker is an installed but disabled program without extra payment. Even more furious because uninstalling it was ambiguous as unsuccessful, with the need to select install rather than uninstall. Even extra furious because when, after several restarts to get the hang of how they intended to manage the uninstall, I later found it still working in task manager on a later occasion after I thought it had gone. Deleting the containing folder could only be done in safe mode. I feel like sending Egis a bill for wasting my time. As it is I registered with them just so I could make a complaint, but have not heard from them. Egis is a terrible bad company for making my win locker so hard to uninstall in my opinion and experience. Bad Egis. Bad winlocker. Lets hope this comes up in some searches to save other people some hassle.

When I tried to uninstall MyWinLocker in Safe Mode, it said that I couldn't because the Windows Installer doesn't work in Safe Mode. I wonder why is that? And there was no Uninstall option when I went to Uninstall a program window and right clicked on MyWinLocker from listed programs. Only "Change" option was given.

Error 1722 showed up as well.

go here...get the Tool for MyWinLocker second one down...33.6KB...08-28-2009...
its going to run their uninstaller and then try to install a newer version...be careful what you check
so you don't get the new version installed...read carefully...after running the tool...reboot

Just a note to anyone who stumbles across this thread, now that it seems that everyone's gone on to other matters.

I had this very problem myself yesterday (while resurrecting a couple of Acer laptops from the scrap pile), and was unable to solve it satisfactorilly trying the steps discussed in this thread.  And the downoad tool described above isn't there anymore, anyway.  Now sipping a cup of coffee the next morning, I have a fresh perspective.

My take on it is that the main problem, or should I say, the primary irritation to be eliminated isn't the fact that MyWinLocker can't be completely uninstalled.  What is more bothersome is the fact that having its dismembered body parts still littering the system causes Windows to pause at boot-up, and clang an alarm, announcing the fact that it won't run.

If that's what you want to fix, here's what you do:

Run msconfig, click the Startup tab, and deselect everything that has to do with it (Egis Tec In-Product Service, and MyWinLocker, in my case).  While you're at it, you can deselect other apps that you'd like to not have run at startup (like Skype, in my case), but don't want to uninstall.  Then hit "OK," and exit gracefully.  When you reboot the system, the irritating alarm will have vanished.
