Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://users.pandora...chy/nailfix.zip
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml


Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.bat. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Be sure to save the log from the scan.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

Hi Kat,

I followed your instructions, but had a couple problems (novice user). First, once in safe mode I wasn't sure which file was the Nailfix.bat (there were two in the folder) I clicked the process one. Second, I ran edwido, but not sure how to get the log from it.

Hi again! Can you please run through the steps again? This time, click on the file in that folder that is called "Nailfix.bat"

Also, during the HijackThis removal, ONLY worry about fixing this line for now:

Since Ewido wouldn't let you copy a log, that's ok. Did you notice if it found anything that could NOT be removed? If not, then we won't worry about it. Ewido is very good at doing its' job!

Bring up your task manager by clicking CTRL>ALT>Delete keys all at the same time. Click on processes tab, scroll to dsgkvuo.exe and end the process. Then, close your task manager, and immediately try to delete the file!

ok, let's go at this a different way. Two logs ago, the Nail.exe did not appear in your F2 line. Now, it is back.


Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Open HijackThis
Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

There will also be an item towards the bottom of the O4 section in HijackThis (it should be the last O4 item marked "HKLM", and it should be between the entries for BigFix and Semantec net Driver). This item will be marked with "garbage" random characters. However, it seems to be renaming itself so the name will most likely be different by the time you follow these directions. In your previous log it was:

Whatever the name of the item is, check it. Then close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Then delete the file listed in the random O4 entry. In the above example you would delete

I see that the Nail.exe file is still there. Ahhhh!

The good news is that the random file is now GONE!!

Open HijackThis and click the Open Misc Tools tab.
Then click "Delete a file on Reboot" a window will pop up to allow you to select the file. Navigate to :

C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

and click "open". You will then receive a confirmation box asking you if you wish to reboot now. Click yes, and then post a fresh HJT log here in a reply!
