How to turn Preview Thumbnails off or on in Windows Explorer (Vista)

  • Open folder options. Open any folder, press the Alt key if needed (to display the menu bar). Click Tools > Folder Options. OR Click Start > search Folder Options and select it in the results pane.
  • Click on the View tab.
  • At the top of the listed (depicted below), you will see "Always show icons, not thumbnails." If you want thumbnails, leave this unchecked. If you don't want thumbnails, then check the box.
