Still have an infection. Click here to download and install Registrar Lite. Install, run, copy and paste this line to reglite's address bar:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs
then hit the "go" tab. Find: "Appinit_Dlls" value on the right side panel, DoubleClick, copy and post here the information in the 'Value' field.

Click here or here to download FindnFix.exe by freeatlast. Double-click on the FINDnFIX.exe and it will install a folder called FINDnFIX on your system. Go to that folder and double-click on !LOG!.bat. The program takes a few minutes to collect the necessary information. When done post the contents of Log.txt in this thread.

Ok thanks...
I have installed and run reg edit as suggested but when hkey code input got a couple of folders named:-

drivers.desc
and
Drivers32
and a file:-
ab[default]

I could find no indication of appinit_dlls anywhere within the above folders

Also installed and run findnfix however the dos program only wants to work with win 2000 or XP (this is a win98se pc that has the problem)

any alternatives to get this sorted would be appreciated!

regards

PS
Have since updated avg virus definitions and found and removed dialer.9N from downloaded program files\on-line.exe.

Well something got it. Your log is clear! <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend Firefox.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. :D

Just thought you would like to know, I got the speaker volume back! :D
Here's how:- (may work for some but not all methinks)

Go to RUN and type REGEDIT. Click on EDIT then click on box FIND. Type in DialPrefix. If you get ModemDialPrefix, ignore and click on FIND NEXT. DialPrefix should be found and it could be set to L0M0D . With DialPrefix highlighted, right click on the mouse and click on edit/change. Change the settings to L3M1D. Then close the registry and try to dial up.

cheers and once again many thanks for you r help - much appreciated <_<
