Perhaps there's another player out there that's able to do as much as wmp? I tried out BSplayer for features wmp doesn't have when I needed to load subtitles onto a french movie (avi file); but, since it doesn't play more than one file at a time (audio mp3 OR video mpeg whatever...) it's useless since this feature is now broken on wmp. What you lose on the swings you gain on the roundabouts, you know?

I've just dl'ed and installed videolan player, and I gave it a whirl. It's not quite what I'm looking for to be honest Armodeluxe. It's pretty much the same as wmp 6.04 which is still on my machine, (wmp9 installed over it) and it doesn't have any ability to play more than one track at a time either! But thanks anyway.

Since I seem to be having a litany of other little niggling (but not immediately threatening) annoyances, and I've been told that it would be a bad idea to try and reinstall windows over all these problems, is it a case of going the whole hog and reformat, and start off with a clean slate?

Well, since I nearly got my head bitten off (well not quite )when I asked about an apparently unnecessary reformat in a different thread, then what can I do to make a clean install of wmp and reset it back the way it was before again?

Thanks for reply willow. Fao those reading not using winxp, in win2k it's actually control panel > sounds and multimedia.

Well I opened video codecs properties, and in the list of codecs I checked the properties of all 11 and they all say: "Status: Driver is enabled and functioning properly"

What do I do now? I don't want to start removing/deleting video codecs willy-nilly without knowing what I'm doing.

Not on win2k I can't, I'm afraid! Like I said to metallica, it's not available outside winXP.

To be honest I'm fed up with this issue now. And it's especially baffling/annoying that it doesn't seem to have happened to anyone else! I mean, surely the laws of probability suggest that there's got to be at least a few ppl out there with the same OS as me, that have installed the same programs as me, and have caused this problem with a badly designed install.

Looks like it's just going to be a format anyway. Aw well, thanks for all the help and suggestions anyway folks!

If you are going to format you could get XP in the prosess, in general it is a good operating system. If you do format buck up first. Norton Goast it very good for this, it makes a image of you hard drive which means that you can if something goes wrong you can at least go buck to what you had (the image can all so be used to restore you document later). Also if you get a virus you can format you hard drive and go buck to one of your back ups. And no I am not trying to make a profet out of advertising, being only fifteen I do not have a job.
