With the my motherboard I want to use the easy overclock. The closeet one is 3.6GHZ. Would that be alright also?

That will be good too... after the auto overclock make sure to check your idle and load temps and make sure that they are under 80C.

I also have an option to overclock my RAM. Would it be alright to change the RAM to around 1600mhz? I can go up to 2600mhz but I would like to known what level is too high though. I also have options for around 2000mhz too. What would be a good level or not at all, and how can I tell whether something isn't going right?

And then is there a difference between changing RAM timings and overclocking the RAM. If so can I alter my RAM timings for better performance?

edit: This is what happened when I went to overclock. I used ASRocks one click overclock, then I saved the changes to the BIOS and the computer rebooted and was just running. The monitor never came on and the box was just idling. Finally after about five minutes I hit the reset button, then part way through the boot it blue screened. I reset my clock speed to normal and everything was OK. Can someone tell me what caused the blue screen and if it actually was taking time to overclock but I was impatient and reset

What are your temps?
I wouldn't go to 1600 all at once... take it one step at a time. I would run Memtest or Prime95 for a while to determine a stable overclock.

My temp was about 27c. I didn't overclock, do have an answer for what happened when I tried to overclock? I described it in the post above the pictures.

It was about $1000 dollars with all the extras that I bought but weren't listed, like OSs and a headset and a monitor. Stuff like that. Keyboard and mouse too, I am coming from a laptop so I needed lots.

I suggest you don't use the one click overclock as it means that you might have to adjust other values like vCore to get your overclock stable... read up on an i7 overclocking guide and try again manually. It helps to know where your reset CMOS jumper is incase of a failed overclock.

27C is very nice for idle... my Core 2 Quad idles at 37C and can shoot past 80 when under extreme stress.
