Looking to increase RAM

Been looking into increasing the RAM on my PC. but being a novice not sure what to look for, or if i have to add to what i have or replace with more.

Thanx for any info.

when buying ram you need to know type (ddr, sdram etc)
need to know speed (133mhz 333mhz etc)
need to know other type (pc 2100, pc2700, pc3200 etc.)
you add to what you have no need to replace unless you run out of slots.
