Hi,

Computer: Sony Desktop Model: PCG-242M. Windows XP

My friend had a virus on his computer so I used the Sony Windows CD to try a reformat.

I went through the whole reinstall windows process and the computer tried to restart to finish this process. However, once it does this the computer won’t boot properly and right at the start when you turn the computer on I get the following:

“We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware of software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down.....”
........ and so on....

I am then provided with the options below:
1 - Safe Mode
2 – Safe mode with networking
3 – Safe mode with command prompt
4 – Last known good configuration
5 - Start windows normally.

Regardless of whichever option I choose, the computer then restarts and comes back again to this screen described above. I have also tried using the Windows CD again to reformat but it doesn’t fix the problem.

Can you advise on what I should do now? Please help!

Many thanks,

Gdab

I assume the CD you are using is for this particular computer.
I also assume that it is the recovery CD that came with the computer.

Since the purchase of the computer, has any thing been changed such as the main board?

Is the Cd a fully automated CD. In other words did you have choices to make such as a full reformat and new partition.?

Hi,

Yes, it is the rovery CD which came with the computer. Nothing has been changed inside the computer. Yes it is the fully automated CD and I was given choices to do a full reformat / new partition.

What do you think I should do now? Many thanks, much appreciated indeed. G
