Hi all. My pc is being infected by rootkits that causes all kinds of problems.
I've done all of the steps in trying to remove them, but they did not work.
I'm thinking of reinstalling Windows XP but I've lost a cd. I've read that I
can reintall it by downloading a Recovery Console file from Microsoft, but I
couldn't download it or anything there because I forgot to patch its security
updates when I should have. Does anyone know where else I can find the file?
Thank you!!!

I see you have a active Malware topic going HERE.
It would be advisable to follow through with that before continuing with a format and reinstall of your OS.
Once the malware techs have declared your system healthy there may not be a need for this topic then.
If so then please return here and we can assist you. One word of caution is that if you don't have your XP installation disk this will be an issue in its own.
Id this is a name brand system then we may be able to proceed but the first step is to go through the malware topic and give the experts there a chance to help you rif your system of the rootkits.

I don't know.... It seems I have exhausted every options except for Hijackthis's. But
I'm afraid if I tamper with it, my pc might be ruined for good. The only thing I hope
going for me is getting the Windows Recovery Console file. Like I said,
I cannot download anything at Microsoft. If you or anyone here would be so kind enough to
PM or email me the file I'd be greatly appreciative.

Transcience is a great tech and he will use every tool at his disposal.
Give him time as they are very busy so it may take some time for him to return.
