My friend reacently made me a computer heres the link to what he got External Link
But recently i looked at my Xfire Profile and it says

"Manufacturer: Freevents
Processor: Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.20GHz (2 CPUs)
Memory: 1024MB RAM
Hard Drive: 245 GB
Video Card: RADEON X600/X550 Series
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
Sound Card: SB Live! 24-bit
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.080814-1233)"

So on this Xfire thing it says i only have 1gb of ram. but on Start>Control Panel>System it says i have 4gb of ram.... The guy who made it is also miffed! and said i should ask a expert forum. We got it from Ebuyer but this was in June and i was stupid to only just realize i though he had only given me 1gb to 2gb. On desktop with MSN and Firefox open and a few icon in tray the rams at about 45%

Any other questions just asked :) but help would be nice! Im not very confident about taking the PC apart but will do if i have to.
Cheers Bulman :)

EDIT: Dont think link is working so here is info

CPU : Intel E8400 Retail £136.27
MoBo: Asus P5Q Pro £101.22
Case: Antec 300 Black £46.99

HDD : Western Digital 640GB SATAII £49.98
GPU : ASUS GeForce GTS250 "Dark Knight" 1GB £107.55
OS : Windows Vista Home Premium OEM £79.73

But i shouldnt of been sutch a new and not check around before posting.... so i realize that vista doesnt work well with 4gb of ram :S ? so what can i do to make it work with it? Some links to tut's or what ever would be nice :) i wanna use my computer for Video editing and it takes ages to ram preview because Vista isnt using all 4gb obviously!

Download CPU-Z (CPU-Z 1.52 setup), install, then run CPU-Z. There should be a tab that says "memory" click on it and it should tell you the total system memory the system has available.

Hello Bulman.... Welcome to GeeksToGo, :) :) :)

I'm sorry to hear about your issue. We will try to help you resolve this as soon as possible.
Please understand we are all volunteers and we are not here all the time. Sometimes it may be a extended amount of time to get back to you. If it has been more then 3 days please shoot me a PM and I will try to get back to you quickly then.

First issue is you are using a 32 bit OS system with XP.
On a good day it will only see and utilize 3.5 gigs of memory.
Second of all let's see what the system actually shows for memory by doing the following.

Push and hold the Windows key on keyboard. This is the one with the Microsft windows logo on it.
While holding Win key down click on the Pause\Break key

This should open the System properties window
On this window it will show
System info:

Microsoft Windows: type and version
Service Pack number

Registered Name
Register Number

Computer:
CPU type
Memory
I need all the above info in your next reply Except for Register name and number.
This is private and we don't need to know this information

Windows Vista Home Premimum
Service Pack1

Rating : 5.6 Windows Experience Index
Processor: Intel® core ™2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz 3.00GHz
Memory (RAM): 4.00GB
Systerm Tpe 32-bit Operating System

I hope thats the information you needed Rshaffer61 and thank you for the welcome :)

and @Vinny
i dunno which bit to look at but im guessing its the Size bit ?
which is 4096 MBytes

And thanks both for taking time to look at my topic :)

so i realize that vista doesnt work well with 4gb of ram

Sure it does. But like ANY 32-bit operating system (XP, Linux, Vista, Win7), not only is 4Gb the limit, but some of that typically goes to "overhead" and, as rshaffer61 noted, 4Gb users often only "see" 2.8Gb to 3.5Gb. That's normal. Seeing only 1Gb with 2 x 2Gb installed is not, however. It would appear the Xfile program has a bug.

Yes that is correct, it looks Xfire is just using bad info. As rshaffer61 said due to having a 32-bit OS and Memory resorvations you will never see a all 4 GBs of memory. Here is a good article on why that is : http://www.dansdata....askdan00015.htm

Your system is seeing 4 gigs of memory.

Memory (RAM): 4.00GB

As i stated before you are running a 32 bit OS so on it's best day it will only utilize 3.5 gigs of that.

Systerm Tpe 32-bit Operating System

This is saying the same as I stated about the memory above

i dunno which bit to look at but im guessing its the Size bit ?
which is 4096 MBytes

4096 Mbytes = 4 gigs

Okay thanks :) but that still doesnt explain why its at 45% when i only have MSN, Firefox and some things in the tray that its at 40%? even my old computer did better then that and it only had 1gb or 2.

EDIT: Any way i can get it to use 4GB ? or does that require buying XP or the next set up ?

Bulman,

Not sure why you are at such a high memory utilization, you might try searching for "xp memory usage" and I am sure you will find some good posts by GeekU members about what you can do.

Regarding seeing all 4GB, XP 32-bit, VISTA 32-bit, and Windows 7 32-bit will never show 4GB of system memory (due to memory reservations). To see and use all 4GB of your system memory you will need to install either XP 64-bit, VISTA 64-bit, or Windows 7 64-bit. Out of those two I would recommend either VISTA 64-bit or Windows 7 64-bit.

As stated before a 64 bit OS will utilize more then 4 gigs.
Let's see what you have running on autoruns.

Download Autoruns from the link in my signature below:
1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.
2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".
3: Click on the "Everything" tab
4: Remove any entries that mention "File Not Found" by right-clicking the entry and select Delete.
5: Go to File then to Export As.
6: Save AutoRuns.txt file to know location.
7: Attach to your next reply.
