I came home Sunday evening and turned on my computer, i then left the room to take care of a few things. When i returned to my computer, it looked like disc check had just finnished running(without my setting it to). I did manage to catch the last thing it stated just previous to logging on. It said something like 'security to default', in repetition. -Now my problems begin.

Problems, thus far: -no sound,
-network connections often fail(no connection w/Explorer, but sometimes w/Google
Chrome),
-computer takes a long time to log in,
-task bar is not displayed,
-some services do not run,
-system restore does not work,
-safe mode has no effect.

I tried system restore, but i got this message 'System Restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, and then run System Restore again'. That did not work. So i Googled some answers, but to no avail. There were some, but nothing i could find as related to my first paragraph.

Yes, i sometimes p2p, but only from noted/reliable uploaders ,scanning my downloads, and i believe i haven't been on any 'bad'sites where infections may occure. Someone said to post a Hijackthis log file, but i can't download the program. It starts, but will not complete.

Mind you, i'm somewhat of a novice, so if anyone could help me, man, i'd be very grateful. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I suggest you go to the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum. If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
