Can someone please help me connect to my TV?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1000.
The TV is a Samsung HD LCD.
Both have VGA ports...so I have a VGA cord connecting the two.

I go to Display/Settings.
Can click on and highlight the second monitor, check the box to extend.
Change source on TV to PC, but it gets no signal and shows no image.

I know this is lame, but I don't know if I even have a video card (see all these terms as I google for help). I have BelArc Advisor up right now, where would I look for the video card ID?

Thank you so much for your help.

Mary, the very first thing I would check is that you have the TV set to the right input. Make sure the TV is selected to VGA and see if that solves the problem.

Hope that helps,

William
