I have a Dell about 3 years old, running XP. I went to hibernate, but it did not shut down properly, so i pressed the power button, then tried to turn it back on. It loads the Dell page, the Windows XP boot up page, and then goes to a black screen with only the cursor, which i am able to move around. I cannot see the background, any icons, toolbar, etc. Only a black screen with a movable cursor. I have tried starting in safe mode; i get the same thing with the word Safe Mode across the top and in the corners, but still only a black screen. I've also taken out my battery. I also tried to restore windows to the last configuration. Any ideas? thanks!
