I have an old IBM computer that I would like to donate to Goodwill. I would like to know how to clean-up or purge the hard drive. The computer has Windows 98.

Formatting a hard drive does NOT prohibit accessing data from the drive. A better approach would be to use a low level format to write all 0's to the drive, but even that's isn't secure. If there is any sensitive data remove the hard drive and physically destroy it.

I was in error, it has Windows 95 installed, not Windows 98. Would the same apply?
