I have a new computer loaded with Norton Anti-virus and McAfee Anti-Spyware. My old computer had Webroot's Window Washer as well. What freeware programs are the best and which ones should I have on my computer for maximum security. I do not want to use subscription services like those mentioned.
Thanks.

I'm sure that others will have different favorites, but the following are what I use and all are freeware. Avast for antivirus app., Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware SE, and A2Squared for spyware, and CCleaner for general cleaning. :tazz:

Hi there! It is not a good idea to run two separate anti-virus programs, as they can cause conflicts with each other!! Of the two mentioned, my personal recommendation is the McAfee, as Norton can cause serious system slow-downs and errors.

.
  • SpywareBlaster - Great prevention tool to keep nasties from installing on your system.

  • IE-SpyAd - puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.
  • CleanUP! - Cleans temporary files from IE and Windows, empties the recycle bin and more. Great tool to help speed up your computer and knock out those nasties that like to reside in the temp folders.
