CD/DVD Drive Not Working

I have a sony vaio VGN-FS990. I recently performed a BIOS update and realized a few days later that my CD/DVD drive does not work anymore. I can read CDs, but the drive is unable to write or read DVDs. When I downloaded and tried to install the Pioneer DVD+/-RW DVR-K16VAS driver from the sony website, I get a message that says "Target not found." Is there any way to fix this? Thanks.
