CD DRIVES NOT WORKING

HI I'm Tony

I recently tried to read a disk in one of my two and that drive came up no access, and just wouldnt work I played around abit and have got it working but now they won't work together i went into properties and checked the box that said write then the other drive in the properties section becomes unchecked and if i check that box the other drive unchecks the box, they used to work together whats gone wrong ? please help

ps when i right click and try to send a document to be burned it only shows the drive that is checked

and im running xp

I presume you're referring to the built in XP ability to write CDs.
If so, it has always been the case that you can only have one drive set as default for writing purposes.

Have you by chance changed any of the jumpers on the back of the drives? It sounds to me like you are saying you have two cd/dvd drives - but only one works at a time. If so - are they both hooked up to the same ribbon inside your machine? Have you made sure that one of the drives jumpers is set to master and the other jumper set to slave?
