No Sound on PC

I have just bought an Acer X1300 desktop pc (3 days ago)There is no sound at all on the pc either the Windows sounds or anything else. Have tried all the usual "fixes" on the online support but still nothing. I have had so much trouble trying to get some sense from the Acer support helpline

that I wondered if anyone could help. System is Vista.I've checked all the cables, new speakers are OK device manager states sound cards are working. Hope someone can help.
