how to set nic's limited connectivity retry timer

i was hoping someone knows how to change the retry timer on a nic after a limited connectivity error i have a remote computer that has some issues with dhcp normally it will self recover after about 30 min but this is too long is there a setting or registry entry that will make the nic try to renew it's ip right after the limited conectivity error pops up with in one minute is what i am shooting for i wirk as a low level tech so technobabble is more than welcome :)
