My computers operating system is XP my problem is that whenever I turn it on it powers up then powers down, when I unplug my cd rom and hard drive it powers up and stays on if I wait a moment after it powers up and try to plug in my HD and CD Rom nothing shows up on my monitor, And if I go to plug it in too fast it powers down also. What sounds like the problem here? Do I need a new power supply or mobo? Thanks for helping.
Computer not booting up help please.

Wait you are trying to plug your hd and cdrom in while the system is running?
This will cause serious problems with
CPU
MOBO
HD
Cdrom
Memory
PSU
First of all does the system post when the hd and cdrom are disconnected?
Second turn the system off and connect the HD and then turn system on. Post or nothing?
When did this start?
What happened right before it started... new program, new hardware?
Make and model of computer please.

why am I having so much trouble staying logged in when trying to make a new post? keeps making me relog.
Anyway
First of all does the system post when the hd and cdrom are disconnected?
- It doesnt do anything other then remain turned on, nothing shows up on my monitor. When they are connected the computer turns on then off a moment later.
Second turn the system off and connect the HD and then turn system on. Post or nothing?
-Powers on then powers back down.
When did this start?-My computer has been off for a month, I've used once or twice a few weeks ago and it worked. Tried starting it up a day ago and I got the above problem.
What happened right before it started... new program, new hardware?
-No problems, just turned it off and hadn't used it.
Make and model of computer please.
I built it, has a 100gb HD 1gb ram, geforce fx vid card and a nvidia mobo. dual core processor not sure on the exact specs. I'll have a look.

How old is the system?
Nvidia would be the chipset and not the manufacturer or the model of the MOBO.
I suspect what you have is either a faulty PSu or a faulty MOBO.
If you can open the system up can you find the make and model that shouldbe printed on the MOBO?
If the user manual is handy that will tell us also.
