Hi guys,

I have a folder which had a number of videos in it but when i click on it now it's empty and i never deleted a thing. When i right click to see the folder size it's 0 bytes. I tried inputting a couple of other videos within the folder but they all seem to disappear once i put them in there, the size of the folder does not change from 0 bytes either. It's almost as though it's changed into a recycling bin. I have rarely used this folder recently, the first time i viewed it was a few days ago and everything was fine. I had tons of old videos in there which would take me an age to get back.

Does anyone know what the problem is? Or how i could get back my videos?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have windows xp.

What is the name of the folder (where is it located) ?
eg: C:\users\steve\movies

Also, are only videos removed ?

You may try to use the following program:

PC Inspector

This program will probably be able to recover your deleted files. (link below)

Thx for that, no it's not only videos, i tried adding jpg's just now and they also just miraculously disappear when i drag and drop in.

Someone recommended i should run a CHKDSK, would that work? and how do i do it?

Yes, that may be able to work as well.

In fact, I was in doubt, because chckdsk takes a while to complete (possibly a few hours)

CHKDSK or checkdisk will try to fix system errors.

Here's how you can do that:

Go to
Start and then to Run
Type in Chkdsk /r Note the space between k and /
Click Enter ...It will probably ask if you want to do this on the next reboot...click Y

If the window doesn't shutdown on its own then reboot the system manually. On reboot the system will start the chkdsk operation
This one will take longer then chkdsk /f

Note... there are 5 stages...
It may appear to hang at a certain percent for a hour or more or even back up and go over the same area...this is normal...
DO NOT SHUT YOUR COMPUTER DOWN WHILE CHKDSK IS RUNNING OR YOU CAN HAVE SEVERE PROBLEMS
This can take several hours to complete.
When completed it will boot the system back into windows.

More information on Checkdisk: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CHKDSK

Good luck :) .

No problem, please be sure to post back whether CHKDSK and/or PC Inspector were able to solve your issue .

About to run chkdsk. I guess i should have asked this earlier but Once chkdsk is completed will it ask me anything? I'm a bit of an amateur at this so dont really wanna answer any questions wrongly once its done and mess it all up. Or does it just fix all errors automatically?

Thx

It will attempt to fix them automatically.
It will not ask you to do anything.
It is important to let us know if it finds any errors and corrects them along with any it may not be able to fix.
If it does find errors then you will need to rerun it till it does not find anymore errors.

Hi guys,

Sorry for the delay, my brother ran the chkdsk today when he came to visit and it thankfully cured the problem. I wasn't here when he done it so i never got the error report. If someone can tell me how to find the error report (it must still be on my comp right?) i'll post it up in here.

Thx again for all the help guys.

Start and then click on Run
Type in eventvwr.msc and press Enter
on left side click on Application

In column "Source" on the right half of the window, look for "Winlogon".
On the same row, "Event" matching 1001 is the que pasa on chkdsk.

Copy and paste the information or take a screenshot of it and attach to your next reply.

Not there mate, i clicked on "source" so that it'll arrange them all alphabetically and the only 'winlogon's' which are there are during September and October, none in November.

He'll be back most probs tomorrow, ill tell him to write a detailed message when he gets here.

OK thank you for the update.
I just want to make sure that everything is working now since the chkdsk was done.
Any problems crop up in the last 7 hours or so?
