Hello,

I bought this DVD drive and did not realize that it was a SATA drive and not a IDE drive. I looked inside my CPU and I did see a SATA power cable which fitted nicely. However, I cannot find any SATA data cable.

I have a lot of 4 pin connectors inside hanging loosely but I dont know how to install a SATA data cable and even if I bought the data cable, where would the other side go....one side would go into the DVD drive.

Any suggestions?? Is there any connector which I could use.

Those are Molex connectors to be used for accessories like fans, water pumps, and other stuff.

So you got the SATA power cable from your power supply plugged in?

It is the black connector in the image... ignore the white 4-pin connector.

Now get a SATA cable and plug one end in the DVD drive, and the other into a SATA header on your motherboard.

What is the make/model of your motherboard too?

Hey, awesome post....greatest explanation ever.

My motherboard does not have those blue slots....I dont know the make or model of my motherboard as one of my friends installed a refurbished one after my original Dell motherboard kicked the bucket.

I guess the best solution would be to return the DVD drive and get a IDE DVD drive. The drive is about $30 so spending about $10 for a connector is not worth it.

The ports don't need to be blue, they should just look like the blue ones... it is likely that you may have a legacy motherboard that doesn't have SATA support. Give me a pic of your mobo.

You might be better off just getting an IDE drive though.

Here is the picture of my mobo. Not a very good quality but I saw some ports which might be SATA. If these ports are for SATA drives, what kind of cable do you recommend. I already have the S-ATA power cable from the power supply.

Those look like Sata ports to me.
Since you don't know the make and model of the MOBO let's try it a different way.

Download SIW from HERE and get the Standalone English version
It will install itself and when finished
Then Click on SIW Icon to run program
On the left side click on the Motherboard directory and then on the right, copy and paste the information in your next reply
On the left side click on the PCI directory and then on the right copy and paste the line that says Audio Device

Nope, No manual. Do you still think I should buy a cheap cable to give it a try. Returning the drive and getting a new one is a hassle.

That is the correct cable for SATA.
The picture in your post 6 shows the black connectors which look to me that they are SATA connectors.
Did the drive not come with a cable at all?

Well the drive did not come with a SATA cable as it was on a deal for only $25. Well I guess I will order this cable and hope that it works. I will keep you uptodate. Thanks a lot for your support.
