I recently upgraded to IE8 and was previously able to Export my Favorites dozens of times, and would name it simply "mybookmarks-Month,Year" in IE7. I have spent 10 hours trying to find an answer as to why I receive the error message that "Some files were not exported successfully" and also a red X next to the word "Favorites". Others have this problem according to other web sites. Microsoft engineers have provided no assistance to any of us. I have dozens of folders (in IE7 the bookmark.htm was around 160 kb)in my bookmarks, yet can only save 8 folders now in IE8 and the bookmark.htm file is only 26 kb. In IE7 I was able to save my bookmark.htm file to ANY location on my hard drive and was able to rename it to ANY file I chose, as I said earlier I had probably a dozen bookmark files, for instance:
MybookmarksJanuary2006.htm
MybookmarksJune2006.htm
MybookmarksFebruary2007.htm

One microsoft engineer stated that IE8 wants to see the default path of something like C:\DocumentsandSettings\Username\bookmark.htm

however, he still doesn't understand the problem. As I said, I've saved bookmarks dozens of times over many years using IE5,IE6,IE7 but keep getting the error message when I try to export the favorites using IE8. If someone out there is using IE8, will you try to export your favorites and see if you get the same error message? Thanks in advance.

Bother not exporting them.
They all live in C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Favorities. Just copy that folder somewhere else.

Strange. Just tried with my IE 8 and had no problem. Allowed me to select the folder which actually was already selected by default. Then next click allowed me to browse to where I want the file exported to. Prior to clicking to move elsewhere you can rename file.

If worse comes to worse, you can switch compatibility modes and try it using IE 8 in IE 7 Mode.

Major Payne,
How do I go about using IE8 in IE7 Mode?? Since you are able to do this in IE8, then I have to presume that the problem lies in my Beta version of IE8

Neil Jones stated that the bookmarks are located in C:\DocsandSets\Username\Favs which I am well aware of. The MAIN concern here is that I like to have a backup copy of the bookmark.htm file in case I lose my hard drive (which has happened before) as I have hundreds of bookmarks.

Why are you using a beta version of Internet Explorer 8 when the final version was rolled out a while ago?

Also, do be advised copying the Favorites folder has exactly the same effect as exporting. Copy the contents of the folder out, wipe the machine and copy the contents back.
With all due respect it seems to me you're trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.
