I am trying to back up my laptop to an hp external hard drive. but when i tried to run the back up it end with a Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).0x80070017
Is there anything i can do to fix this? is it the data on the computer that has a problem or the hard drive?

Most companies which make disk drives also have a diagnostic program in order to test the disk. If there is a bad spot on the disk, it can sometimes be remapped to bypass the problem.
