I'm getting this error whenever I open a windows application

The application or DLL C:\PROGRA~1\google\GOOGLE~4\GOE62~C62~1.DLL is not a valid windows image. please check this against your installation diskette.

Is there a fix for this?

Cheers

Roger

Click Start > Run > type msconfig click ok > Click the Startup tab

Find that entry and unselect the box beside it. Reboot and it should be gone

make sure to attach this log please

CLICK HERE to download the HijackThis Installer:
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  • Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
  • Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in Notepad.
  • Click on "Edit -> Select All" then click on "Edit -> Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and paste the log in your next reply.
  • Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

hi

1. Please re-open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below(if present):

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\PROGRA~1\Google\GOOGLE~3\GOEC62~1.DLL

2. Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

Reboot and it should be fixed

Fantastic - worked a treat

Much obliged

BTW - Any idea what might have caused the problem?

Its just a left over registry key from Google that was running on startup. Nothing to worry about

Thank you Rorschach112. This solution you mention with hijack eventually worked (although my antivirus/spyware/malware had to be subdued in the process.
cheers
David
