Dear All,

Greetings!!

This is my first post on this forum. Couple of issues that I am facing right now. Firstly, under Device Manager I see a yellow question mark next to SM Bus Controller. I tried to fix the problem by running the motherboard CD but it didn't work. Later I formatted my machine and reinstalled the drivers but the problem still exists.

And second, "USB Device Not Recognized - One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it". Amazingly, I get this error even when NO USB device is connected to my desktop :) !!

Thanks in anticipation!!

Regards,
Saurabh

Hello websaurgh.... Welcome to GeeksToGo, :) :) :)

In order to help you we need to know the make and model of your system.
If this is a custom built system then we need to know what make and model the motherboard is.

Download SIW from HERE and get the Standalone English version
It will install itself and when finished
Then Click on SIW Icon to run program
On the left side click on the Motherboard directory and then on the right, copy and paste the information in your next reply
On the left side click on the PCI directory and then on the rightcopy and paste the line that says Audio Device

Did you get a drivers disk with your motherboard?
What you are missing is the motherboard chipset driver. If you reload the chipset driver the sms controller should be resolved.
The information you have provided still does not tell me what motherboard manufacturer and model it is. :)

Yes I got one driver software CD. I have run that CD quite a few times but in vain. On that CD its written
"For Intel Chipset - G02-CD17-A26-F S/No: 080919A26". Is this of any help :)

Is this a custom built system or a name brand system?
I haven't given up just haven't gotten the correct information I need.
From what I have found the board seems to be made by ECS but I need to get verification to find the correct chipset driver. If this is a name brand system I need the make and model of the system.

We can try Everest, but we know that it does not pick up some new boards.

Download and install Free Everest Home Edition
Open it.
1: In left pane expand Computer folder.
2: Click once on Summary
3: In upper menu, go Report
4: And then to Quick Report-Summary
5: Save it in text file, and paste it in your next post.
Click the + by computer, click on Sensor. Get a screenshot and post it so I can check your temps and voltages...

DO NOT INCLUDE ANYTHING UNDER THE LINE THAT SAYS "DEBUG- PCI"

We can try but usually SIW gets the newer ones and that didn't happen. Maybe we'll get lucky though.

Hi this is my first post iv been at this for 2 days and the problem seems to be resolved. I have windows xp home edition.

I stupidly restored my pc, although its good to clean it out once in a while but i took the casing off and cleaned the ports out with air to eliminate dust, still nothing, tried all the updates for drivers and every other driver, nothing. I saw a post that said to switch off the pc and unplug the power cable. Then push the power button to remove any static and power that can be held inside. Then i unplugged it at the wall, left it for about 15 minutes, turned the pc back on and plugged in the usb which is my headphones and it worked. Something else i noticed after restoring the pc a second time i got a new update which was an nvidia audio codec driver update which i didnt get the first time. It said 'no drivers are installed for this device' in device manager so it may be relevant. Hope this helps i know how frustrating it is :)

If it goes again i will scream lol.

Another thought i tried another usb (for wireless mouse and keyboard) which was fine so i knew the port was not faulty.. i had also contacted microsoft about it and after that is when i got the new update... go figure.
