PC will not communicate with printer

PC specs. Dell Inspiron 3000 XP pro SP 3 pentium 4 cpu 2.8 gh 512 ram Intel 82865 Graphics controller 80Gig HD with 60% free space. Have latest updates and just ran Dell driver reset tool. Printer is Lexmark X4270. PC says can't communicate with printer.Changed USB cable and tried 3 extra usb ports. Have latest drivers and updates for printer but still have same problem. Have used printer many times before.
