As long as it is the same version ie XP professional on the disc, and you have XP Professional on your computer you should be ok.

Hey Chamber got that fresh install from the SP3 CD everything worked out fine BUT!!! LOL I've never reformatted a computer and so I'm guessing I have to install all of my drivers and stuff again b/c it's not picking up my wireless card or any of that I'm guessing my friend refered a site to me it's a Driver download site so can I just download them put them on my external HD then apply them to the fresh system? Lastly guess what popped up and I wasn't even connected remotely to the internet VIRUT!!!!! what shall I do now???

like as soon as I finished the installation I just fooled around w/ it a bit not putting any programs or anything on it but just browsing and then it just popped up Virut is infecting file win.ini or something like that and like 3 or 4 more other files that I didn't write down...

So it was your antivirus then?
Did you do a full reformat or a repair install? Did you load any files back onto your system from a memory stick?

maybe but I have no idea if I just redo everything like before where am I going to get another anti-virus then??

Yep I done a FULL reformat and the only file I ran was my anti-virus that is from my external HD

ok so just do everything all over again is there anti-virus that I could dl off the net just to make sure it wasn't my own anti-virus?? What would you recommend b/c I was using AVG for almost 3 yrs. now

Super!!! thx chamber I'll get on this bad boy again in the next 2 or 3 hrs. and it is safe to run from my external HD right just to make sure...
