Hello, I've been a silent reader for a few days now, but I decided to join the forums to address a question to the community in hopes that I can get my problem solved. It's been occurring for about 1 week so far.

What's happening is my computer is restarting out of nowhere pretty often. When my computer restarts, it usually restarts constantly before I even see my desktop and does it real often. So what I did was just shut off my computer completely and let it rest for about an hour or so, and try it again. Luckily, it works if I do that method, but that limits my time on the computer quite a bit. Some incidental consequences I have been experiencing may or may not be related to this issue, but all my games have been crashing pretty often as well.

Could this be a virus issue? Or an overheating one? I think it's overheating as when I let it rest, it works after for a good while. Thanks! :)

Hello zomg_gamer.... Welcome to GeeksToGo, :) :) :)
Download Speedfan (The download link is to the right), and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows. The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.
To make sure we are getting all the correct information it would help us if you were to attach a screenshot like the one below of your Speedfan results.

To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard.
  • It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
  • Now go to Start and then to All Programs
  • Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
  • In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
  • Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
  • Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop
  • Attach it to your next reply

Click on the file you just downloaded and run it.
Put a tick in Accept then click on Next
Put a tick in the Don't create a start menu folder then click Next
Put a tick in Create a Desktop Icon then click on Install and make sure there is a tick in Launch Whocrashed before clicking Finish
Click Analyze
It will want to download the Debugger and install it Say Yes
WhoCrashed will create report but you have to scroll down to see it

Conclusion
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

46 crash dumps have been found on your computer. Only 38 could be analyzed. Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is really responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

OK first problem is your system is in meltdown mode.
Is this a laptop or desktop?
Is it under warranty still?
If desktop and not under warranty when was the last time it was cleaned out using a can of compressed air?

This is a desktop I am running. It's not under warranty anymore, and I haven't cleaned it out before. What is this can of compressed air you speak of?

exactly as it sounds. A can of air that is compressed to blow at a force.
It's like blowing inflating your tire on your car or using a blower to blow leaves off your yard.
If you haven't cleaned it before I suggest you look at the front of the system, then on the left side you can remove the side panel.
Inside you will find at least 3 fans.
One is on the motherboard (Most important one we need to check)
Another usually on the inside front or inside back of the system.

Once you have the system open I need you to turn the system on and look to make sure the motherboard fan (CPU fan) actually is turning.
If it is not turning then we need to clean this out.
Immediately shut the system down once you have confirmed the fan turning or not.
Reply back and we can continue the cleaning process from there.

I'll try to get a can of compressed air tomorrow from Wal-Mart or something.
I have never cleaned the insides of my computer before, neither have I even dared opened it due to my inexperience as in fear I might do something wrong. I could try opening it tomorrow, but I'm going to have to move my hard drive to the ground, as it's inside a computer table. Could you link me to a guide on dissembling my computer? If you need, my computer is a Compaq Presario S6300NX.

Go HERE and scroll halfway down the page. There you will see a few pictures of the cpu and fan that I need you to look at.
Don't take them out just locate them and see if the fan has a bunch of dust bunnies on it.
Considering you have stated you have never cleaned out the inside I believe the problem is overheating.
You can follow along with the guide and it will show you how to build your own system and the different components inside you will see.
Just post a message here and I will respond as soon as possible.

On the final picture of the guide, the 2 fans I'm looking for are under the power supply and the bottom right area? I'm just assuming this is a general guide to get an idea of what to look for.

Actually it is a guide to help newbies build their own system. Starting from the top of the page it would be pictures 12 through 20.
They show the fan I am most worried about.

Please start your own topic
Although your issue may seem similar there can be other factors that may need to be resolved as you have already stated with the 3d game issue..
By bumping on someone's topic it makes it confusing for the tech (ME) to understand who they are helping. This can in turn cause the wrong support to be given and can cause instability or worse to happen to your system. Thank you for your cooperation.

Well I bought the can of compressed air and opened up my computer with the help of my dad. It was VERY dusty in there, I couldn't believe how much was in there. So I cleaned out everything and now it's pretty much no sign of dust. Unfortunately I couldn't identify where the fan next to the motherboard was. I did see one fan though, I cleaned it pretty thoroughly, but again I was not sure if that was the fan I was looking for.
