Help! Black Screen

Hi I have just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows vista basic and am now having problems with my netbook randomly crashing to a black screen. On restart it says it has recovered from an unexpected error and says I can check for a solution but to no avail. It also says something about a minidump.
Also, on start up a black screen appears but eventually does settle down to the desktop. What is causing this and how can I rectify it?
