to this monitor

i have the Logitech X-530 5.1 surround sound system and a creative x-fi 5.1 surround external sound card

ideally i want to plug in my monitor to my dvd upconverter via hdmi, then i want the audio to play through my 5.1 surround speakers, or at least some of the speakers, just NOT the monitor speakers, is this possible? what conversion accessories are necessary? can i go from SPDIF to optical then use my speakers that way, or what is your recommendation. thanks
