I removed some spyware a few weeks ago and since then have not been able to update java, connect to the server for stamps.com, or encidio, or firefox, or anything that uses a direct connection to my computer. System restore fails. I have turned off firewalls, uninstalled all extra programs, edited the registry, tried to open the ports on my router, everythign i could ifnd that could be causing the problem; however, I am a novice user and only can do what I read online. Can someone start from the top and see what is blocking applications from connnecting?

I use Windows XP Home edition. My router is linksys and my network is wireless though road runner turbo.

Since this all started with a infection I suggest you go to the Malware Removal and Spyware Removal Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post the reguested logs in THAT forum. If you are unable to run any of the tools then start a new topic in the malware forum and put this in the subject line...I am unable to run any malware tools

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
