Can't get highspeed

So I live in an area where no company can provide DSL or cable or any type of highspeed internet. It seems like my only options are to live without it or just do this:

and set up my own connection.

My question is this: Does anyone know a way i can go about getting a good connection? If not has anyone ever attempted to set up their own?
