The screen saver don't come on automatically in the past few days. I have done antivirus scan, Spybot scan and Ad-Aware scan and there don't seem to have any problem. Please help! Thank you.

Here is the Logfile. Don't know if it helps.

Do you remember downloading or installing any software or making any changes just prior to this problem coming up? Have you verified the settings for the screen saver are correct?

The screensaver is turned on. I can see it in the preview window but it just won't come on. I have installed an ogg codec for video, AC3 tools, spyblaster recently. Don't know if any of these is keeping the screen saver from coming on.

is this a default screensaver (came with windows) or third party.

Did you try choosing a different one other than the faulty one

What do your screensaver settings say?

It's the default screensaver that won't start and I didn't have any third party screensaver. I have no idea why. It works a couple days ago but it just stop working. I have scanned my computer for virus and adware but they all come back without any problem. I can also preview my screensaver but it just won't come up after I leave my computer unattended for 10 minutes.

I can't help with the solution as I am having the same problem. Yes, my screensaver settings are correct and yes I've tried different screensavers, none will activate. I've been looking into the problem on different sites and have read that an optical mouse may "see" a reflective surface and interpret the reflection as activity. I have tried removing the mouse and still the screensaver does not activate. I too have recently installed video codecs though I can't see why they would have any effect on a screensaver? I have found another topic on this forum ...

http://www.geekstogo...topic=53997&hl=

Which suggests downloading and running ...

http://www.kellys-ko...abledisable.vbs

I tried this and it made no difference.

Also, the standby function (in the power options properties window) does not activate. So, when powered my laptop stays on continuously. Something I really want to fix.

I'm using WinXP with SP2 update. But seriously thinking of changing everything over to linux, the dual boot system is good and I love Slackware but Windows is seriously giving me the sh!ts ......

Any help appreciated.

Today I discovered that there was a program that seems to be affecting the screensaver & power saving time operation. I use iTunes over a network to allow me to listen to my music on another machine and when it runs (along with the helper and service programs) the screensaver does not work. If I stop the three processes then the screensaver works. I don't remember this being a problem before I installed SP2 so perhaps there is something there? It might be worth checking what you are running and test a few? Just a thought, but for me its problem solved :tazz:
