Greetings:

The specs for the hardware in question:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe (bios v1015)
Antec Earthwatts 650W
AMD Athalon 3200
2 - 512mb Crucial
2 - 1gb Crucial
2 NVidia GeForce 7800 GT 256mb
Windows XP Professional

I built this machine about 5 years ago. About 1 year ago I would have issues getting the machine to even POST. About two weeks ago, the machine would not even turn on. I stripped it down and replaced the power supply which worked.

I had just the CPU, RAM, and video cards on the MoBo outside the case and got the the machine to POST. I installed the CPU, RAM, and video cards on the MoBo and installed it all in the case. I installed all the other cards, optics, and IDE HDs and was able to boot to the BIOS. I installed Windows but when the machine rebooted, it said there was no HD.

I had inadvertantly but master in the spot on the cable for the slave, no problem. I shut and powered down and switched the HD.

When I went to reboot, no POST. I stripped down (in the case) to just the CPU, RAM, and video cards to no avail. I pulled the MoBo out of the case and nothing. I have tried every possible configuration with the RAM and video cards to no avail.

I have read through the forums for three days and tried all suggestions (except buying new components). How could the thing POST then all of the sudden not!?

Any ideas or similar situations in which a machine would not POST and your solutions would be hugely appreciated, thanks!

If you have taken the MOBO out and only installed the following to it
Cpu with, 1 stick ram in dimm 1, power supply, case switch and case speaker
Connect ps2 mouse and keyboard along with the monitor
Does the system post?
If not then you may have a failed MOBO.

Thanks for the reply

I have done the MoBo with pretty much every configuration I can think of, I will try the exact one you mention tonight.

Are there reported issues with bios 1015 that anyone is aware of?

Not that i have heard.
The most logical reasoning for the issue is that the mobo has failed. :)
Being 5 years old it is very possible so don't hold your breath that it will work.
The price of computer components has dropped dramatically in the last year so you might be surprised at how cheap it would be to replace the MOBO, CPU and Memory to upgrade to a lot faster system. :)
