I have been having trouble with my laptop for the past few days. Firstly when I turn it on it beeps incessantly for about 10 seconds before starting up correctly (the screen is black when this happens). It then proceeds to start up normally. Everything can work fine for a while but then its like a ghost mouse takes over! The screen scrolls rapidly by itself and my mouse actions are ignored. I cannot seem to click on what I want only what the 'ghost' mouse has chosen. Sometimes by pressing esc. i can remedy this but other times the screen ends up freezing and I have to restart the program.

Thanks for your time!

Hi gh28...welcome to Geeks To Go... :)
did you add any hardware or software recently...any software or windows updates...
boot into safe mode...do you still have the problem...if so..look in the device manager ...got any yellow ! or ? or red X's
nojoy...
try going to the control panel...click on mouse...click on pointer options tab...uncheck enhance pointer precision ...click on OK...reboot
nojoy...
you should try reinstalling your chipset drivers and your touchpad drivers...
if these don't help...give us the make and model number of your system
