Hi ,I have a windows XP media center edition 2002 I have 2 hard drives 250 gb each. one is 90 % full the other is almost empty. Is there a way to get the other drive to pick up the slack ? Can I move files from one drive to the other. I have a lot of picture on my computer,i would like to move them to the other drive if that is possible. thanks Mike

You have two hard drives and both are 90% full but one is almost empty?
Confusion has set in. :) :) :)
If I understand your question you can move DATA over which would include the pictures as you state. Programs can not be moved over without doing some changing of paths or re installation.
The other option is to change where programs save data to.
I hope this answers your question. Please let me know and I will monitor this topic for you.

The easiest way is to open up a windows explorer window.
I assume the 1st 250gb drive is C drive and the other 250gb drive is D drive.
Explore (locate) the files you want on C and click on the folder (or files) and drag them to where you want them on the D (other drive).

This is a copy and paste function.
A little tutorial on copy and paste

I'm not sure , I stumbled across it. If I remember right it was Angel something, it said recovery` and warned not to move or add to it. I'm sorry not very good with this stuff. I tried to find it , but I can not. the hard drive has 150 mb used - 232 GB unused. It sounds like I have some room there. thanks Mike

Sounds like you have a C drive and a D drive as 1 physical drive and another physical drive that might be called E.

I am only guessing at the letters.

Go to start...
Go to run....
Type in compmgmt.msc and hit ok
On the left under storage, expand "disk management".

Get a screenshot please
To do a screenshot please have click on your Print Screen on your keyboard. It is normally the key above your number pad between the F12 key and the Scroll Lock key
Now go to Start and then to All Programs
Scroll to Accessories and then click on Paint
In the Empty White Area click and hold the CTRL key and then click the V
Go to the File option at the top and click on Save as
Save as file type JPEG and save it to your Desktop

It looks to be E is the recovery but that is a huge recovery partition at 5 gigs

The one drive has the C and E partition and is full.
The D drive is your other 250gb drive. It is empty.
The E is probably a recovery partition although it is large for that. We can only guess at it being a recovery because you did not tell us the make and model.

Move your data to the D drive.
NOTE: You can not move programs.
