mouse clicks sometimes

mouse clicks on things fine a couple of times then i either have to click something on the task bar or ctrl+alt+delete then click to close task manager to get it to work for a little while then same thing have to do this over and over bout every three things i want to click on. when it stops clicking nothing the pointer goes over even recognizes that it can be clicked on like the buttons on the browser to not even expand. any help would be greatly appreciated.
