This is an Anti-virus check. It isn't really a virus, but it tells your anti-virus that it is. I have AVG, and all I had to do was click the link, and it said I had a virus. Good Ol' AVG! If your anti-virus doesn't tell you right away, I would recommend saving to the desktop. Then after your done, just delete the "Eicar" program in "Add/Remove Programs" and the desktop icon (You don't have to delete your temporary internet files that way). Please post the results.
Here is some information on the file:

I recommend any one that uses the virus checker eicar be very careful.
My reason for this is what they posted at the end of the page. and for the virus that is to look like the eicar tester.
There post at end of page:
Important note: cannot be held responsible when these files or your AV scanner in combination with these files cause any damage to your computer. You download these files at your own risk. Download these files only if you are sufficiently secure in the usage of your AV scanner. cannot and will not provide any help to get rid of these files from your computer. The link that nathanhuth posted is a valid test file link.
The best way to make sure you do not get a virus is to keep you antivirus program up to date.
Do not open any e-mails from people you do not know.
Watch what files your downloading.
I have edit this post due to the way it was worded Sorry All.

I don't have any problem with the antivirus test links links provided by nathanhuth. If I thought they posed a real danger I would have edited them out of his post. I check them and it's a legitimate virus test.I do not recommend any one to use this virus checker. My reason for this is what they posted at the end of the page.
I also understand Tazz's concerns, but IMO it's just standard legal mumbo jumbo. Can't be too careful these days (just look at the terms of use for this site ).
