OK. Good news, and bad news. Or, bad news and bad news, you tell me.
Firefox froze in Safe Mode. AND, this has never happened before, the computer froze on restart while loading the desktop. It exhibited the exact same characteristics as when it freezes while browsing. I could move the mouse, could not push buttons (icons), and the mouse pointer was frozen in hour glass.

I would uninstall Firefox and re-install it

That was one of the first things I did when the problem started.
Should I start shopping for a new box?
