Is there a way to set up a macro to search multiple excel files in a given directory and compile specific information from each spreadsheet into a master file?

I am trying to track progress for a project. I would like a macro to search a specified column in various excel files that are based on a template and pull progress statistics like "in progress, completed or not started".

Basically put, have a macro or something that says go to this directory, open these files, and report this to a new excel file.
