So, to start off, I've been trying to upgrade an old computer of mine to sell (looking to build a $3000 system this spring, and the cash from this system will go towards that purchase). The system was quite outdated, running an ancient Celeron D with 1GB of DDR233 RAM and 2 WD 40GB HDD's in Raid 0. Since the specs were right, I went ahead and installed a copy of Windows 7 Enterprise x86. Afterwords, I decided to beef it up a bit with an 802.11n wireless NIC and an ASUS EN8400GS 512MB graphics card. However, upon installation of the GPU, things started to go downhill.
First, the card will only send a constant signal via S-Video, but the image is very fuzzy and the contrast is far too high. Adjusting monitor settings does not help. Secondly, the signal via D-Sub can only be seen once the BIOS has finished loading and the "Starting Windows" screen appears. As soon as that screen goes away, the signal does too. Another thing in the box was a S-Video to Component converter. It doesn't produce any signal, at any time. Finally, I am left with the DVI connection, something which I have no way of testing (my monitor/TV doesn't support it).
I'm really not sure where to go from here. I'd really like to have a solid signal via either Component or D-Sub. If anyone has any ideas as to how to get things straightened out, I'd really appreciate it.
Sorry if this is far too long-winded, at least it's thorough. Thanks in advance for any help, and if I've missed anything, please ask.
