I have a bunch of questions because I am completely confused.
My internet provider is Verizon and I have DSL. My modem is Westell VersaLink Model 327W. My first question is, can the modem I have be used as a router? When I try to install the router is says that it has detected another router.

I bought the router so I could play online but during setup I keep running into problems. My first problem was when it asked me: "Are you replacing an existing router" which doesn't make sense to me because as far as I know I have no router, just a modem. The options are:"Yes I am replacing my existing router"or"No I want to keep my existing router and use both of them". I don't know what router it's talking about. Should I choose one over the other?

I also want to know if the end result that is correct have my modem and router both on? I ask because during the set up I'm prompted to unplug my "old" router, which I don't have...so I don't know if I should keep my modem off or on. A few times I was able to kinda setup everything, just my router couldn't find an internet connection, my modem was off, and it started asking about me about something that had the word "Dynamic" in it, there was one with PPoP or something, another that said in parenthesis it was only for Australia.

I am so confused, is the router going to be my modem? Should my modem be connected to my router? Should the ethernet cable from my hard drive be connected to my modem or router when everything is finished....Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

Yes that is the same model. Should I be looking at the "wireless" section in the first two links you've posted? Is the "router" part of my modem the "wireless"? Where exactly should I be looking for to find out the steps in which I can get the router to be active.

Lastly, how do I get to this screen(it's in the first link you posted)

Well, it looks like it is a router with wireless
The modem will also be part of the router, so a Modem?router combination quite common....

The router part is where you can connect up a PC with a cable and the wireless section

How are you connected to that unit - by a cable and I assume its working OK, if its working then that login screen would already be set

What did you want to connect up to the router, how many PCs, are any of then wireless

to access those screens and setups look at the quickstart manual to access the router and modem settings which is on page 16...

Once logged in - see on the wireless section, if wireless is enabled , if not enable it
On the secruity section see if you can disable

Now see if your PC can see the wireless signal , it will be called whatever is in the SSID section "west8863" in the link I sent

If you can download this program while connected to the internet http://www.xirrus.co...y/wifitools.php and install it will help us diagnose the wireless, if you cannot connect
