Each time I log on to the internet an executable file link to C:\windows\system32\new_zealand.exe appears on my desktop.

Also I recieve bogus messages regarding spyware and internet connections, it changes my Internet Explorer settings and generally makes life miserable.

I have deleted the executable several times but it comes back.

Have run all the malware programs and have an up to date Norton Antivirus which is not picking it up.

Attached is log

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.xtra.co.nz/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://nz7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://nz7.hpwis.com/
O2 - BHO: &EliteBar - {28CAEFF3-0F18-4036-B504-51D73BD81ABC} - C:\WINDOWS\EliteToolBar\EliteToolBar version 60.dll
O2 - BHO: &EliteSideBar - {ED103D9F-3070-4580-AB1E-E5C179C1AE41} - C:\WINDOWS\EliteSideBar\EliteSideBar 08.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\GameDrvr.exe" /startup "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0500.dll"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Media Player] mcafe32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [salm] c:\temp\salm.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitednj32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows Media Player] mcafe32.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft Works Update Detection] C:\Program Files\Microsoft Works\WkDetect.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Windows Media Player] mcafe32.exe

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Please reboot into safe mode (continually tap the F8 key while your system is starting, select Safe Mode from the menu).
Be sure you're able to view hidden files, and remove the following files in bold (if found):

C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccess.exe

Reboot your computer and repost with a new HiJack This log and let us know how your comptuer is running :tazz:

Thanks for the advice. I have previously done 50% of what you suggest and have improved things out of sight. I will complete the rest and post a new log.

Thx
