iexplorer is killing me

First let me say i am computer stupid, but can follow directions very well, please help. Iepxlorer keeps popping up and closing open windoows computer is running real slow for some unknown reason. Not much info i know but if you can help i can give you more if you tell me where to look thanks for your time
