I just bought a brand new Dell Studio 450 Desktop last week. It came with Windows Vista 64bit Home Premium. I have the Windows 7 kit (CD) and I would like to install it into the computer. What do I do exactly?
I've heard of custom clean installation and regular upgrade installation... any preference?
I've heard that the clean installation should not be done by amateurs, because it requires a lot of technical skill. Does it matter which method I use to install Windows 7?
Thoughts? any feedback is greatly appreciated. Please let me know what to do exactly.
Thank you

I called Dell and they told me that the CDs I will be receiving can only be used with an Upgrade install and not clean install

which of the 3 methods do you recommend please? where can i find full in-depth steps for each of the methods? because i am not experienced and i do not fully know what to do for each method...
also, what programs/games/extras/etc. come with a windows 7 CD? where can i find a list?

This is what I'd do.
I'm assuming, your Windows 7 DVD is also 64-bit, because you can't upgrade from 64-bit to 32-bit.
I'd try to upgrade first and if something doesn't work, THEN you can go for clean install.

BTW...I never checked my Windows 7 installation for games, so I'm not sure.

You said clean is better... so why upgrade if clean install is better?
what do you mean if something doesnt work? what wouldnt work? for example?
why not try method 1 of the workaround?
yes its 64 bit upgrade
thanks

I gave you some options, but the final decision will be yours.
Whatever you try, no harm done.

Personally, I always go for clean install.
I can't tell you, which workaround is the best, because I haven't tried any of them.
I installed 7 from full version DVD.
