Okay, this laptop's been with me for quite long, about 2 years. Just yesterday, when I tried to turn it off, the hourglass did come out, but it wasn't turned off. In example, I click the shut down button, hour glass comes out, hour glass goes, nothing happens. That happened to several files I wanted to open, although I could open some files. Since this happened, I tried rebooting my computer by forcing a shutdown, and when I tried to turn it on, it couldn't get pass the loading screen. Normally, after loading, there's a screen, and yeah I meant that screen.

Could it be a worm? Because I've tried restarting it today as well.

What operating system do you have on the laptop?
Windows XP? Home Edition, Professional, Media Center, or Professional 64 bit?
Windows Vista? Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate? 32 bit or 64 bit?

Can you get into the BIOS screen? (F8 during startup?)

Do you still have your windows xp disk or recovery disk?
Sounds like the boot loader is corrupted.
