I have had broadband access in WinMe for a year, and have also had a systray icon lighting up to show internet traffic. What I lack is a quantitative indicator, such as is visible in Status (in WinXP). Can I get that for WinMe ?

I like to use AnalogX NetStat Live. Its very light on resources and reports your current, average and maximum Incoming and Outgoing connection speeds and usage. NetStat Live works on all versions of Windows, from Window 95 to Windows 7.

After installing NetStat and clicking on the app to run it : "Nsl has caused an error in <unknown>. Nsl will now close. If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer." So I rebooted, but still got the same error. Is there a chance that I may be able to get it to run without error ? If so, how ?

It could be a corrupted download.
Try downloading another copy and installing it.

I did as you suggested, but with the identical outcome.
BUT
I've just realised that the (obsolete) Sygate Personal Firewal page that I have been routinely closing, has EXACTLY what I need : a graph and a bar display each for both Incoming traffic and Outgoing Traffic.

To think that I had been considering replacing it with something that is current !

Correction :
The Sygate display is not QUITE as snazzy as WinXP's Status (of the internet connection). WinXP shows a CUMMULATIVE figure; Sygate only instantaneous.
